In the north of France 16 slag heaps have been surveyed by EUROSENSE with airborne thermography for BRGM (Bureau de Recherche Géologique et Minière).
To help BRGM assess mine related risks, EUROSENSE performed thermography flights above these slag heaps, better known as terrils in France and Belgium. Results allowed to highlight specific hot spots linked to remaining activity inside these coal mining waste deposits. The assessment of these mine wastes, using infrared thermography, perfectly illustrates the broad spectrum of possibilities of thermographic images.
