The “Population Distribution Mapping” service is particularly useful in crisis situations for areas where demographic data is rare, of low quality and only available for few administrative units per country. If detailed demographic data is already available, this service can assist you to geo-reference these datasets and integrate them in a GIS environment.

In our model, population figures are calculated per pre-defined grid cell, based on indicators like the location of villages, land use practices, height information, etc. Recent satellite information is used to collect this information. The model results in a GIS grid database where each cell contains a number of inhabitants. The service is adaptable to the user’s requirements.
